Bryan Harrell is a singer/ songwriter. What that means in this day and age is open to interpretation. At one time it may have evoked thoughts of James Taylor or Carol King,
sitting with guitar or piano, searching their soul for thoughtful lyrics and unforgettable melodies,
and while Bryan has been influenced by such artists, the geographic surrondings of his youth have most certainly played a role in shaping his unique musical voice.
“I was born and raised in Chicago, but my father was from the deep south. My mother grew up loving the great old Hollywood musicals of the 1940s. We lived around the corner from some of the world’s most famous Blues clubs. I was first exposed to live music at Wise Fools and The Kingston Mines. I wasn’t old enough to get into the clubs, but I’d press my nose against the glass and watch some of the world’s most famous Blues legends perform.
“My dad never took a sick day in forty years. I know that’s hard to believe but it was part of his plan. Summer was a time for travel and we did. For thirty days a year we would travel the south—the Smokey Mountains, Memphis, Kentucky and of course my dad’s home of South Carolina. It made quite an impression me. I was able to exprience some of the world’s best music. Real old-fashiond folks would come down from the Smokies and play guitars and fiddles. Then we would head off to hear some wonderful rockabilly and jazz in Memphis.
“As I grew older I came to appreciate all music that came into my life as long as it was “good,” including classical music while studying guitar with the world-renowned Muriel Anderson.”
Bryan has released four albums, lived in Nashville and Austin, Texas, and performed on national television and radio. “I love what I do. I write music and perform everywhere from New York to L.A., Chicago to Nashville and have a chance to meet some of the nicest people along the way. When someone tells me they were moved by a song I’ve written or that it made them think about something in a new way, it makes my day.”
Look for the release of Bryan’s new album, “The Heart Never Tires.”
